Ding! Ding!
This weekend had two heavyweight stars battling it out for box office supremacy, and now we know there has definitely been crowned a winner!
In one corner was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who got into ridiculously good shape for his movie Hercules.
And in the other corner was the sultry and sexy Scarlett Johansson who is playing a heroine with supernatural powers in Lucy.
Well, Scarlett and her writer/director Luc Besson turned out to be the victors in this fight as ScarJo and company are due to make $44.1M if all goes accordingly this Sunday. That is an insanely good opening number for an R-rated film! An R-rated action film no less!
Dwayne’s movie Hercules need not hang its head in shame though – it put up some impressive numbers, as well! Even if the movie did come in second place! The Brett Ratner directed flick is estimated to have a $29.9M overall weekend, which means the movie outperformed even its own expectations!
The distribution chief of Universal Nikki Rocco definitely believes that the difference between a male hero and a female hero was the deciding factor. She said:
“To have a female lead in an original property absolutely made a difference. Scarlett is a star, and her presence made it a lot more appealing for women.”
We ain’t going to argue with the fact that Scarlett is a star, and her presence had A LOT to do with this movie’s success!
This was the most money made in an opening weekend than any of Johansson’s other films have made when she received top billing, but we doubt it will be the last time that happens! Cause baby she’s a star!
We’re loving the girl power!
